This was the first game of the “12 games in a year” challenge I had set for myself and I wanted to start small. I took the puzzle concept from one of the levels of an earlier game (Whiskerville) and expanded that. The player can navigate a life sized chess board in first person. Everytime the player moves, all the pieces on the board move as well. If the player gets caught by one of the pieces, they die and have to try the level again. There are several types of pieces, from simple pawns that only move one square at a time, to more advanced pieces that move in a knight-like pattern. I wanted to keep the gameplay relatively simple so that I could focus more on the atmosphere, making it dark and creepy, but despite that, some of the later levels get surprisingly difficult to navigate.
