For my second game of the “12 games in a year” challenge I had set for myself, I wanted to do something a bit more interesting. I was inspired by games like Borderlands and wanted to make a first person shooter where the player could choose different upgrades as they level up. Frontier takes place in an arena with waves of increasingly strong enemies. The player levels up as they kill the enemies and can upgrade their weapons, pick new abilities, or unlock new weapons. The goal of the game design was to create interesting synergies between upgrades, forcing the player to think critically about the upgrades they choose.
