Er Is Toch Niks Beters

Er Is Toch Niks Beters is a play about a play. The main story follows a couple about to get married, who during the preparations for the wedding realize that they are together because they are afraid of being alone. The two are pressured by their increasingly pushy group of friends, who are all in miserable relationships themselves. The first act ends with them unhappily dancing as their friends party around them.

The second act goes right back to the start but shows us the happings behind the scenes. We see the actors react to things that went wrong on stage as well as a budding romance between two of them. A romance that is being thwarted by the writer and director, who we find out has been in a miserable relationship herself. We start to see why the first act was so cynical...

The inspiration came from a frustration with modern media, who seemingly refuses to show us any healthy or functioning relationships. I started wondering what the writers were going through to make such angry content about nagging wives and lazy husbands. The result is this exploration of relationships
